The Executive Governor of Katsina State, His Excellency, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, PhD, CON, today joined the nation in commemorating the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day Ceremony held at the People’s Square, Katsina. The event was a solemn occasion dedicated to honouring Nigeria’s fallen heroes and recognising the courage, patriotism, and sacrifices of serving and retired members of the Armed Forces.

Governor Radda described January 15 as more than a symbolic date, noting that it represents a national obligation to remember those who paid the supreme price in defence of Nigeria’s peace, unity, and sovereignty. He emphasised that the freedoms and security enjoyed by citizens are anchored on the sacrifices of gallant men and women in uniform.

Addressing senior government officials, security chiefs, military veterans, serving officers, and families of fallen heroes, the Governor paid tribute to soldiers whose service and sacrifice have left lasting imprints across Katsina State. He acknowledged both those who returned home as heroes and those whose names are immortalised in national memory.

The Governor commended the Armed Forces for their resilience and professionalism in the face of persistent security challenges, including insurgency and banditry. He highlighted their role in protecting communities, rescuing abducted citizens, securing educational institutions, and restoring confidence in vulnerable areas across the state.

Governor Radda reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening Katsina State’s security architecture through sustained logistical support, enhanced intelligence collaboration, and improved welfare interventions for security personnel and their families. He stressed that remembrance must translate into practical actions that promote justice, opportunity, and dignity for all Nigerians.

The ceremony concluded with the symbolic laying of the wreath in honour of fallen heroes, alongside prayers for the repose of their souls and for continued strength, protection, and success for all personnel currently serving the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

The administration of Governor Dikko Umaru Radda remains committed to safeguarding Katsina State, the Home of Heritage and Hospitality, through people-centred security initiatives, community-based interventions, and policies that prioritise peace, safety, and the welfare of all citizens and residents.
