Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, has lauded the growing global recognition of Katsina’s rich cultural heritage as he received a high-powered delegation of 17 foreign diplomats who arrived in the state to witness the 2026 Durbar Festival in the historic Katsina and Daura Emirates.

The delegation, led by His Excellency Pieter Leenknegt, Ambassador of Belgium to Nigeria, arrived in Katsina yesterday to participate in the 2026 Sallah festivities across Katsina and Daura Emirates.

The visit forms part of the 2026 Durbar Festival, a major cultural event showcasing the traditions, history, and identity of the people of Katsina State.

During their two-day visit, the delegation participated in the famous Hawan Sallah on Eid day and toured several completed development projects and notable cultural sites across Katsina and Daura Emirates, including Gobarau, the Open Theater, the Mechanization Center, Kusugu Well, and other historic landmarks.

At a cultural night, the diplomats were introduced to Katsina’s traditional and historic games and performances, including Dambe, Kokawa, Sharo, Rawar Koroso, Gada, Kacakaura, Kotso, Bankaura, and other cultural showcases.

On the second day, the delegation attended Hawan Sarki (Hawan Bariki) in Katsina and later Hawan Magajiya in Daura, witnessing decorated horse riders and cultural displays at their finest, reflecting the state’s history and heritage in a magnificent manner.

Speaking at the two events, Governor Radda described the visit as a reflection of the growing global interest in Katsina’s cultural heritage. He emphasized that the visit would strengthen diplomatic ties and position Katsina State as a hub for cultural tourism and international collaboration.

He also highlighted ongoing efforts to address insecurity through strategic operations and community-based initiatives, including the Community Watch Corps and enhanced collaboration with traditional and religious leaders, assuring citizens of the government’s continued commitment to restoring peace.

Governor Radda further outlined key achievements across sectors such as infrastructure, agriculture, education, healthcare, water supply, and public sector reforms, including road development, agricultural support programs, recruitment of teachers and health workers, and improved access to healthcare and potable water.

The presence of the international delegation underscores Katsina State’s growing prominence on the global cultural stage and reinforces ongoing efforts to preserve its rich traditions while promoting peace and development.
