Katsina State has emerged as the highest-spending Nigerian state on agriculture in the first quarter of 2026, recording N12.01 billion in expenditure, according to data from the NGF/TheCable Index.
The figure places Katsina ahead of Lagos (N7.62bn), Benue (N6.58bn), Niger (N6.03bn), Oyo (N5.39bn) and Kaduna (N5.29bn).
A total of 21 states recorded agricultural spending of at least N1 billion during the period, with Katsina accounting for the highest expenditure among all the states assessed.
The ranking highlights Katsina State Government’s continued prioritisation of agriculture as a key driver of food security, economic growth, employment and livelihood opportunities under the administration’s development agenda.
Other states in the top 10 include Akwa Ibom (N4.84bn), Edo (N3.65bn), Gombe (N3.33bn) and Bauchi (N2.25bn).
The data further underscores the growing investment by Nigerian states in strengthening the agricultural sector and supporting farmers and food production.
